Ravshanbek Babajonovich Abdullayev is Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Hemodialysis and Rehabilitation at Urgench State Medical Institute, a Doctor of Medical Sciences and professor. He was reappointed as head of department in 2026.
Education and academic qualifications
He graduated in General Medicine from Samarkand State Medical Institute in 1984 and completed a clinical residency in internal medicine in 1991. He defended his Candidate of Medical Sciences dissertation in 1992 and doctoral dissertation in 2002 in specialty 14.00.05, Internal Medicine. He received the academic titles of associate professor in 1995 and professor in 2008.
Professional career
He worked as an assistant lecturer at Samarkand State Medical Institute. From 1994 to 2012 he held posts in medical education in Urgench as associate professor, dean of the Faculty of General Medicine and head of the Department of Faculty and Hospital Therapy. In 2012–2015 he directed Urgench Medical College while also serving as a professor at the Urgench Branch of Tashkent Medical Academy. In 2015–2023 he served as department head, deputy director for research, dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics, and deputy director for research and innovation. He worked as a professor of the department in 2023–2026.
Research and publications
His research covers internal medicine, gastroenterology, hepatology, rehabilitation, dietetics and traditional medicine. His principal research topic concerns the prevalence, clinical features and new treatment approaches for digestive system diseases in the South Aral Sea region. He is the author of more than 500 scientific and methodological works, including 15 monographs, 2 textbooks, 3 study guides, 36 teaching manuals, 4 methodological recommendations, 3 Ministry of Health information letters, 6 improvement proposals, over 200 journal articles and more than 300 conference abstracts. Over 30 research outcomes have been introduced into teaching and clinical practice.
Research supervision and service
He is a member of academic degree-awarding councils at Samarkand State Medical University and Urgench State Medical Institute, and serves on the editorial boards of eight journals covering gastroenterology, therapy, science and education. Seven researchers have defended dissertations in internal medicine under his supervision. His students Qudrat Jumaniyazov (1996) and Ozoda Ismoilova received the Presidential State Scholarship, while Aziza Baxtiyarova (2025) received the Islam Karimov State Scholarship. In 2026 Aziza successfully took part in the city, regional and national stages of the Mirzo Ulug‘bek Vorislari competition and won with «DGI Health», a project developed under his supervision.
Recognition
He received the Excellent Healthcare Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan distinction in 2010 and won the national Professor of the Year nominations in 2019 and 2021. He is a member of the Urgench City Council of People's Deputies for the 2020–2024 and 2025–2029 terms.
